Dragon fruit grows not on trees, but on cactus plants.  There are three varieties of dragon fruits, and the yellow dragon fruit is the most rare to find.  Unlike the red and white varieties, the yellow dragon fruit has yellow skin instead of red/pink.  Instead of extended leaf like extensions on the skin of the fruit, the yellow dragon fruit has spikes that are typically removed prior to being sold.  By far, the yellow dragon fruit has a more intense flavor than the others and it is typically a little smaller as well.
